Similar to a crack addict, we are happy when the cost for gas is small and access is plentiful. Once the price of Oil surpasses our pain threshold, we again will be forced to re-evaluate our stance for long term independence.
Wind farms are cropping up everywhere across the United States as one of the hot new technologies of the new green economy. Our new administration is touting the reduction of our carbon footprint and reliance on foreign oil as a way to re-invent our workforce to manufacturer and maintain wind harvesting systems for both commercial and residential purposes.
However, compared to solar, is the wind an alternative resource that we can hang our hat on? Will it be a technology that will help wean us off of the mainstream fossil fuel wagon we have tied ourselves to?
Like solar, wind is unpredictable. Some locations that have high incidents of wind are not 100%. Wind can also be unmerciful when storms rage and real time gusts over 60-80 mph batter the large windmills. With that being said, how much of our investment is wasted on repairs and non-use when the wind does not get high enough to make electricity and they sit dormant?
